Let’s Have an Honest Conversation About Hormone Health
Hormones play a role in many processes throughout the body, and their levels naturally change throughout different stages of life.
During perimenopause and menopause, some women experience changes involving sleep, mood, menstrual cycles, body temperature regulation, sexual health, energy, concentration, and other areas of daily life. These experiences can vary significantly from one person to another.
The goal of Let’s Talk Hormones is not to tell you what treatment you need. It is to help you better understand hormone health, become familiar with questions you can discuss with your healthcare provider, and learn about some of the options that may be considered as part of individualized care.
Pharmacy Innovations focuses on education, personalized pharmacy support, and collaboration between patients, pharmacists, and prescribers.

Understanding Hormone Therapy Options
Hormone replacement therapy, often shortened to HRT, refers to medications containing hormones that may be prescribed in certain clinical situations.
There is no single hormone therapy approach that is appropriate for everyone. A healthcare provider may consider factors including symptoms, age, medical history, current medications, laboratory information when appropriate, potential risks, and personal treatment goals before recommending care.
Some patients may use an FDA-approved hormone therapy product. In certain circumstances, a licensed prescriber may determine that a compounded medication is appropriate for an individual patient whose clinical needs cannot be met by an available FDA-approved product.
Compounded medications are not FDA-approved, and the FDA does not evaluate compounded drugs for safety, effectiveness, or manufacturing quality before they are marketed. Treatment decisions should always be made in consultation with a qualified healthcare provider.
What Is Compounded Hormone Therapy?
Compounding allows a pharmacy to prepare a medication based on a prescription written for an individual patient.
Depending on the prescription and the patient’s needs, a compounded hormone medication may involve a specific strength, combination, dosage form, or ingredient consideration.
Compounding does not mean that a medication is inherently safer, more effective, or preferable to an FDA-approved treatment. Rather, it may be considered when a prescriber identifies a specific clinical need that an available commercially manufactured medication does not meet.
At Pharmacy Innovations, compounded medications are prepared as part of a collaborative process involving the patient, prescribing healthcare provider, and pharmacist.
